Lucy's Wedding

Writer: Julie NicholsJulie Nichols

During lockdown, many brides and bridesmaids were left disappointed that they couldn't go ahead with their big wedding days. A lot of beautiful dresses had been purchased and left hanging up ready for the big day.

Lockdown was then lifted and weddings can go ahead again. This means some dresses not quite fitting, as the stay at home wasn't kind.

Lucy's wedding party approached me and asked if I could help to make their dresses fit again.

We purchased a dress exactly the same so to use the fabric to match the dresses. We rebuilt the dresses and fitted extra side panels and reshaped and fitted breast cups to give more shape to them.

These dresses came with a silk floppy bow at the back and Lucy asked me to redesign the bow so that it stood firm and proud and not so long. With Crinoline and interfacing fitted, the bows were redesigned to the spec she required.

The rest of the bridesmaids dresses were hemmed to the level required to fit the length.

Lucy's wedding dress also had some alterations, a modesty panel fitted, a diamanté belt hand sewn and the length hemmed .
